"Bevare Gud vår Kung", literally God Save our King, is a song written by Abraham Niclas Edelcrantz as a song of honour to the King of Sweden. It was written in 1805 to the then king Gustaf IV Adolf. It is set to the music of the British God Save the King. It was considered the official Royal Anthem until Kungssången was written in the mid-19th century.
1.
Bevare Gud vår kung!
Gör säll vår ädle kung!
Leve vår kung!
Bekrönt av ärans hand,
alltid med hjärtats brand
förent med folk och land.
Leve vår kung!
2.
Nu varje troget bröst
med hjärta och med röst
hans välgång sjung!
Må tvedräkt flykten ta!
Han allas kärlek ha!
Sjung, svenska Folk, hurra!
Leve vår kung!
1.
God save our King!
Make noble our gracious King!
Long live the king!
Crowned by the hand of Glory,
always with the heart's fire
united with people and land/country.
Long Live the King!
2.
Now every faithful subject
with heart and voice
sing to his health!
May animosity decline!
He is beloved!
Sing, Swedish people, hooray!
Long Live the King!
